Construction Program Overview

Building Careers From the Ground Up is a HWDSB system wide program that allows senior students to participate in a Specialist High Skills Major in Construction out of Saltfleet District High School. This specialized all day Construction program is now available to students in either semester 1 or 2 where students can earn up to 6 credits towards their High School diploma. It is recommeneded that students have successfully completed grade 11 Construction Technology at their home school prior to applying to the program. Students will have the opportunity to participate in building a house from the ground up, as well as, work at a Co op placement in a Construction related trade. Students will receive basic awareness training and certification in WHMIS, Fall Protection, Basic Health & Safety, Personal Protective Equipment, CPR, First Aid, and Hilti fasteners.

Students who apply to the program must be willing to work outdoors and long hours. Basic Measurement skills are also required. For more information regarding this program students can contact their Guidance Counsellor at their HWDSB home school or contact one of the program teachers.
